Overview
The Director of Education at HIA is responsible for developing, managing, and enhancing the company's education program, including coding policies and standards. This role requires a minimum of five years of coding experience in an acute care setting, excellent communication skills, and certifications in RHIA or RHIT and CCS. Key responsibilities include conducting education programs, maintaining professional standards, developing coding policies, and providing staff and client support. The position involves occasional travel for client education, involvement in staff training and development, and adherence to compliance guidelines and HIPAA regulations.
* This can be a remote/work from home position but requires occasional travel to corporate office in Pawleys Island, S.C.*
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate honesty and integrity in all activities performed within and on behalf of HIA adhering to compliance programs and guidelines
- Provide excellent service to clients and staff
- Protect the confidentiality of all client and patient verbal or written information
- Maintain the highest achievable level of professionalism with clients, peers and staff
- Conduct education programs for all staff members
- Remain available during business hours to address review, client, and coding staff’s coding questions
- Develop and conduct physician education programs for clients as required
- Develop and maintain HIA coding policies and coding competency tests
- Educate staff on all industry changes; ICD-10 coding, CPT coding, reimbursement, new procedures and technology as they relate to coding
- Assess and recommend staffing needs, assist in interviewing candidates
- Train new employees on coding policies and government rules and regulations
- Develop and maintain coding training and education materials
- Resolve all coding conflicts between coding staff and Quality Reviewers
- Submit accurate monthly expense reports with all corresponding receipts
- Review all coding articles and prepare summarization for staff each month
- Attend management meetings as scheduled at the corporate office
- Assist with special projects as assigned
- Perform physician query and review worksheets quality audits to identify educational needs
- Performs second level QA review of QA Reviewers yearly Performance and Professionalism
- Maintains strict confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA guidelines
- Exhibits professional demeanor at all times
- Maintains communication by responding promptly to Corporate office staff
- Demonstrates flexibility, open mindedness, and versatility in adjusting to changing environments
- Handles constructive feedback with a positive attitude
- Receptive to suggestions for changing or improving the way work is accomplished
- Commits to continually improving his/her job skills
Qualifications
- Current RHIA or RHIT and CCS certification
- Strong knowledge of coding rules and principles to include interventional radiology and professional fee coding
- Minimum of 5 years inpatient & outpatient coding experience in an acute care setting
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and management experience
- Demonstrates basic ability to use computers
- Experience with encoding system required
- Requires occasional travel to client sites for education visits
- Previous review and education consulting experience required
