FY 2026 ICD-10-PCS Code Updates

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services has released the FY 2026 updates to the ICD-10-PCS code classification. This year’s updates are smaller than last year’s, with less than half the number of codes (156) being added.

The sections of ICD-10-PCS with new codes are:

ICD-10-PCS Coding Guidelines

The 2026 updates to the guidelines consist of changes to the examples in the New Technology guidelines E.1a and E.1b. The technologies used in the examples have been replaced with current entries from the New Technology section as the previous technologies used in the examples have been moved for reporting from other sections of ICD-10-PCS.

ICD-10-PCS Alphabetic Index

The addenda to the ICD-10-PCS index has 28 pages this year. Most of the entries added to or deleted from the index are related to changes in the tables such as the addition of new root operation, body part, device, substance or technology values, or the movement of devices and substances from one section of ICD-10-PCS to another. Some of the deletions and additions are made to correct errors.

One significant update is the change to the direction provided by the index when searching the term Cricoid cartilage. Previously, the index directed the use of the body part value Trachea for documentation of cricoid cartilage. As of 2026, coding professionals should use the body part value Larynx for procedures performed on this site.

A related entry for Cricothyroidotomy has also been added directing the coder to “see Bypass, Mouth and Throat 0C1” which is a new code table for 2026.

The greatest number of updates are made within the code tables themselves, with both the Medical and Surgical and New Technology sections adding new tables. The number of tables with updates per section and the number of new tables being added to ICD-10-PCS is shown here.

Sample of Significant Updates

Below is a list of some of the significant updates to the ICD-10-PCS code tables for 2026.

• Endovascular Anchors – A new device value “L, Intraluminal Device, Endovascular Anchors” is being added to the Heart and Great Vessels and Lower Arteries body systems to allow for reporting of this device in conjunction with endovascular aneurysm repair of the aorta.
• Transfer of Nasal Structures - A new table, 09X, is being added to allow for reporting of transfer of nasal mucosa and soft tissue, nasal turbinate or nasal septum.
• Cricothyrotomy/Cricothyroidotomy – Table 0C1 with a root operation of Bypass is being added to the Mouth and Throat body system to allow for reporting of these procedures.
• Cerebral Embolic Filtration – Table 5A0 added function value “6, Cerebral Embolic Filtration” and Qualifier values identifying the filtration capture type to allow for reporting of this procedure.
• Radiofrequency Division of Aortic Leaflet – a new technology value “W, Leaflet Laceration, Radiofrequency Energy” was added to the New Technology section’s Cardiovascular table to report division of aortic leaflet, prior to TAVR, to prevent coronary obstruction.
• PillsSense GI Bleed Detection System – A new table, XDJ, is being added to the New Technology Section with a Device value of “L, Ingestible Capsule with Light Absorption Sensor” to report Inspection of the GI system.
• WiSE CRT Endocardial Pacing System – a new device value “7, Endocardiac Pacing Electrode” for the root operation Insertion in the Cardiovascular System is being added to the New Technology section to allow for reporting insertion of the electrode portion of the WiSe CRT Endocardial Pacing System. A code from this table must be reported with a code for  insertion of the generator which comes from new table XHH and uses technology value “H, Ultrasound Transmitter and Battery for Endocardiac Pacing Electrode”.
• Introduction of Substances and Devices - There are 7 new substances and 1 new device being added to the Introduction (XW0) table for New Technology Group 10.

    • Treatment for myasthenia gravis
    • Antibiotics for carbapenem resistant Enterobacterales and complicated urinary tract infection
    • Gene therapy for hemophilia A
    • Treatment for severe frostbite
    • T cell treatment for sarcoma/lipsarcoma
    • Anti-schizophrenic
  • Devices
    • Peptide Enhanced Bone Void Filler (PearlMatrix P-15) is a drug-device combination bone graft proven to accelerate new bone formation and used in transforaminal lumbar interbody fusions.
